LANGKAWI, 2nd September 2024 – Langkawi’s commitment to environmental sustainability shone brightly on September 2, 2024, as the Board of Directors and Leaders from Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd made an unforgettable visit to the renowned Langkawi Geosite at Red Rock Beach, Rebak Island. Accompanied by YBhg Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid, CEO of Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), this event marked a pivotal moment in the island’s preservation efforts.
The Vital Role of Red Rock Beach
Red Rock Beach, located along the coastline facing the open sea, is also famously known as Hero Beach or The Saviour. This beach plays a crucial role in the ecosystem by acting as a natural strainer for sea debris. The debris, carried by ocean currents, gets trapped here, preventing it from drifting further and reaching the shores of Langkawi. This is especially significant in protecting the premium beach of Chenang, which is a popular destination for tourists. By intercepting the sea debris, Red Rock Beach helps maintain the pristine condition of Chenang Beach, supporting both environmental health and the local tourism industry.
A Call for Unified Clean-up Efforts
During the visit, Datuk Haslina lauded the tireless beach-cleaning activities spearheaded by local resorts and passionately called upon corporate bodies and NGOs to support these vital initiatives through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. “Our sustainable practices are built on the continuous efforts of our community. It’s time for all stakeholders, especially corporate bodies and NGOs, to unite and ensure the sustainability of this precious geosite,” she emphasized.
